The station is proud to announce that Sabelo ‘DJ Sabby’ Mtshali, will be taking over The Bridge Monday to Friday 09:00 – 12:00.

This daily lifestyle show brings various inspirational, fun, engaging content and music to ensure the delivery of an entertaining as well as insightful mid-morning radio show.  The show is the bridge between one’s reality, opportunities, endless possibilities; and isn’t complete without the famous ‘Ask a Man’ feature. The visionary broadcaster and an all-round urban youth culture commentator, DJ Sabby will certainly bring a whole new offering to the mid-morning airwaves across the country. MEDIA STATEMENT |  PUBLICATION OF FINAL REPORT ON GRIEVANCE LODGED AGAINST SABC CHAIRPERSON

Johannesburg – Thursday, 23 June 2022-On 8 April 2022, the SABC Board announced that it had adopted the Report of the Special Committee tasked with investigating allegations by former Group Executive: News and Current Affairs against the SABC Board Chairperson. The key findings were summarised and published but the main report was deemed private and confidential, particularly as it contained private and personal information of and about third parties.

On 31 May 2022, the SABC received a written request from SOS Support Public Broadcasting Coalition (SOS Coalition) to make the Report available on the basis that the findings were substantive and involved matters of public interest, including the alleged breach of the SABC’s Editorial Policies and how the matter was dealt with.

The Board applied its mind to SOS’s formal request to publish the Report, including the significant public interest in this matter, and the need to err on transparency and accountability, while protecting private, confidential, and personal information at the same time. Accordingly, the Board resolved to:

 

  • redact and remove information deemed to be private and confidential, including private and personal information of and about third parties; and

 

  • publish the redacted Report on the SABC’s website and make it available to the SOS Coalition.

 

While some information contained in the annexures appears to be in the public domain, the SABC has decided to publish the 47-page Special Committee Report and findings (redacted accordingly and excluding the annexures in order to protect private, confidential and personal information).

MEDIA STATEMENT |  LEIHLO LA SECHABA SCOOPS AN AWARD AT THE PanSALB MULTILINGUALISM AWARDS

Johannesburg – Friday, 17 June 2022-The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s television Current Affairs programme, Leihlo la Sechaba was recognised for its excellent programming at the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) awards on Wednesday, 15 June 2022. Leihlo La Sechaba secured first place position in the media category TV channel/programme.

The PanSALB awards are intended to honour organisations which have exceptionally delivered the mandate of promoting, protecting and preserving all South African official languages including Khoi, Nama and San languages as well as South African Sign language.

The accolade for Leihlo La Sechaba is a perfect fit as this programme broadcasts in Sesotho, Setswana and Sepedi with English subtitles every Monday at 20:30 to 21h00 on SABC 2. The programme is known for its extensive coverage of important issues affecting society including community development, politics, economics as well as other topics of interest for all South Africans.

The Group Executive for News and Current Affairs, Mr. Moshoeshoe Monare stated that “This award is yet another confirmation of the commitment of SABC news and current affairs division in ensuring that its programming caters for all citizens in all South African languages. MEDIA STATEMENT | METRO FM BIDS MS DINEO RANAKA FAREWELL

Johannesburg – Wednesday, 15 June 2022 – METRO FM would like to bid Ms. Dineo Ranaka farewell as she leaves the station to pursue other career opportunities outside the organisation.

 

Dineo has been with METRO FM for more than five years and her last day on-air is Friday, the 17th  of June 2022. She is a seasoned broadcaster and has been an integral part of the station’s success over the past couple of years and served with professionalism, resilience and enthusiasm.

 

METRO FM Business Unit Manager, Ms. Kina Nhlengethwa stated that “The station wishes Ms. Ranaka the best in her future endeavors. She has made a valuable contribution to the station and its listeners”.

 

METRO FM will announce the new anchor of ‘The Bridge’ in due course and will keep its listeners informed of any further developments.

MEDIA STATEMENT | THE SABC UNBLOCKS MS MAGOPENI AND INVESTIGATES FACTS SURROUNDING THE INCIDENT 

Johannesburg – Tuesday 31 May 2022 – The SABC has learnt that former Group Executive News, Ms. Phathiswa Magopeni, was last night blocked from the SABC News Twitter page. The SABC has no policy authorising any employee to block users from the public broadcaster’s accounts or platforms.

The SABC wishes to state for the record that it has not issued any directive to block Ms. Magopeni from its platforms. Upon learning of this unfortunate incident, the corporation immediately unblocked its former employee.

Furthermore, the SABC has reached out to Ms. Magopeni, explaining the facts of the matter and profusely apologised for this unfortunate incident.

The matter is currently under investigation as this account is managed by multiple individuals within the News Division. Following the investigation, the SABC will institute the consequence management process as this conduct is contrary to its policies.

MEDIA STATEMENT | SABC SPORT OFFERS ANOTHER SPECTACULAR WEEKEND LINE-UP

Johannesburg – Friday, 27 May 2022SABC Sport, with its promise to be the preferred home of sports, continues to deliver spectacular weekend sport line up of the highest standard. This weekend is filled with action packed sporting events covering the Basketball African League (BAL) matches, local and international football fixtures comprising of Hollywoodbets Super League, Nedbank Cup final, English Football League Championship and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Football and Rugby.

Mr. Mogale is being afforded an opportunity to resolve the issues raised in the recent broadcast which pertain to his personal business dealings involving crypto currency. In the meantime, Mankoko Baby will be hosting Ntshirogele with Skhumbuzo Mbatha. The station takes the welfare of its vulnerable listeners seriously and will leave no stone unturned in its investigating of this matter.

Johannesburg – Wednesday, 18 May 2022 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) congratulates Ms. Leanne Manas on being bestowed the Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Mérite (Knight of the French National Order of Merit).

This prestigious honour was presented to Ms. Manas last night, by H.E. Mr. Aurélien Lechevallier, the Ambassador of France to South Africa, of behalf of France’s President, Emmanuel Macron.

According to the press statement by the Ambassador’s office, “this high honor recognizes her immense contribution to journalism, media and various important charitable causes. It is a recognition of her extraordinary talent and resilience on our TV screens as she continues to inform South Africans through her daily programme Morning Live, which she has been hosting on South Africa’s public broadcaster SABC for almost two decades”.

Johannesburg Wednesday, 18 May 2022– Ukhozi FM management regrets to inform the station’s listeners that three (3)members of the breakfast show team have been unscheduled following an internal investigation. These members are the host and two Producers of the show.

Management will not discuss this matter further as it an employer-employee relationship governed by the Corporation’s policies. Management has put measures in place to ensure continuity of the show. Siya Mhlongo is the stand-in Presenter who will co-host the show with Nonhlanhla ‘Mroza’ Buthelezi.

MEDIA STATEMENT | SABC SPORT’S INCREDIBLE WEEKEND OFFERING

Johannesburg Friday, 13 May 2022 SABC Sport  is set to deliver an incredible sporting line-up this weekend. The audiences can look forward to exhilarating and diverse sporting action comprising of local and international offerings.

This weekend, SABC Sport will cater for football, motor racing and Rugby fans. The action will kickstart tonight at 21h00 with CAF Championship League semi-final second leg match between Wydad Athletics Club and Petro De Luanda on SABC DTT Channel 4, Openview 124, TelkomONE.

On Saturday, 14 May 2022 SABC Sport  will feature   motorsport with day one (1) of the Formula E 2022 Berlin e-prix race qualifying at 10h30 SABC Sport on DTT Channel 4 and Openview 124 and these will also be available on TelkomONE. Round 7 of the same race will be broadcast at 14h30 on the same platforms. Sunday will mark the second day of the Berlin E Prix race at 10h30 and Round 8 at 14h30 on the same platforms.

Football fans will be spoiled with a great selection of football matches from the DSTV Premiership, Bundesliga Football League, CAF Championship League and the HollywoodBets Super League. The DSTV Premiership will feature the Baroka FC and Supersport United on SABC 1 at 14h30.

The German Premier Football Competition, the Bundesliga concludes its 2021/22 season with matches on Saturday, 14 May 2022. The 59th season concludes with VFL Wolfsburg and Bayern München match at 13h30 on S3 and the second match, Borussia Dortmund vs Hertha BSC will be available live on TelkomONE at 15h30 and will be re-broadcast at 20h00 on SABC 1 to conclude the end of season for 2021/22.

Saturday will also feature the second leg of the CAF Champions League semifinal match between ES Setif vs Al Ahly at 21h00 on SABC DTT Channel 4, Open View 124, TelkomOne and SABC Radio Stations.   On Sunday Al Ahly Tripoli will meet Orlando Pirates at 17h30 and at 21:00 TP Mazembe vs RS Berkane will be broadcast on the same platforms

SABC Sport will on Sunday, 15 May broadcast the HollywoodBets Super League match between Bloemfontein Celtic FC and Tsunami Queens FC live on SABC 1, DTT channel and SABC Radio stations at 14h30 and the match will also be available on TelkomONE as well as SABC Sport digital pages.

Rugby fans can also look forward to the thrilling Heritage Rugby match between Abe Midas Naka Bulls and TUKS on Saturday, 14 May 2022 at 18h30 on SABC 2, DTT, TelkomONE and will livestream on SABC Sport Facebook and YouTube pages.
