Johannesburg – Monday, 3 October 2022 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has been recognized for excellence in telling the African story at the annual Most Influential People of African Decent (MIPAD) Global Recognition awards in New York. The SABC programme The Fullview and its LOVE and KZN floods broadcasts were honored in the Hall of Fame category for their positive contribution and impact on the lives of citizens.

SABC News presenter Ms. Bongiwe Zwane was named in the Most Influential 100 Under 40 list for 2022. In addition, Ms. Megan Lubke received the Hall of Fame Award as Executive Producer in primetime, for The Fullview. The MIPAD Recognition and Awards Ceremony honors outstanding personalities and high achievers of African descent from around the world by uncovering their stories of excellence and their resultant positive contribution.

This is the first time that the SABC has been bestowed this prestigious honor.

MEDIA STATEMENT |  SABC ACQUIRES FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022 AND FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND 2023 BROADCAST RIGHTS  

Johannesburg – Friday, 30 September 2022 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce the acquisition of the world’s greatest football spectacles for men and women, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand 2023™.

The acquisition of FIFA’s flagship tournaments is a testament to the SABC’s commitment to continuously fulfill its public service mandate by providing access to sports of national interest to South African citizens.

 

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is set to take place from 20 November to 18 December 2022, with the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia / New Zealand 2023™ taking place next year from the 20th of July to the 20th of August 2023.

 

For the FIFA World Cup, SABC Sport Channel will be the primary broadcast platform for the live presentation of the matches, with SABC 1, SABC 2 and SABC 3 also carrying the games live simultaneously. In line with SABC Sport’s strategic objective of making the world’s greatest football event available to all, audiences will also be able to enjoy the live action from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ in the language of their choice on SABC Radio Stations.

 

All the live match presentations will include a live studio build up with match previews and latest team and player news, presented by SABC Sport anchors and top analysts, both on TV and Radio platforms.

 

As part of the “always-on” digital strategy, all the latest news, score updates, log table, streaming services and live match commentary will be available on the SABC Sport digital platforms, ensuring that the audiences don’t miss a single minute of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Media Statement | Next teenage superhero to make their appearance on RSG’s Kragkamp

Johannesburg-Tuesday, 27 September 2022– Radio Sonder Granse (RSG) recently launched a skills-based reality radio show that is focused on the youth – Kragkamp (“skills camp”).

The 13-part series kicked off on Wednesday the 14th of September, and broadcasts on RSG every Wednesday at 19:30. Arehan Brand and Marli van der Merwe, the hosts of the popular Kompas-programme, take the participants through weekly challenges based on everyday essential life skills.

The participants are:

The eight (8) participants will participate in challenges that focus on skills such as cooking, communication, reasoning ability, marketing, personal finance, and many more.

 

According to Louise Jooste, Business Manager at RSG, “the series aims to empower participants and listeners in their everyday lives; from job hunting to managing conflict. The participants will share their challenges and shortcomings with the listeners and the team of experts will ensure that they do not fall into the same trap every time. We believe this first for radio will be greatly entertaining and informative.”

MEDIA STATEMENT | MUNGHANA LONENE FM’S EPIC WEEKEND HERITAGE CELEBRATIONS

Friday, September 23, 2022 – Johannesburg – This weekend Munghana Lonene FM celebrates Heritage in a big way with three (3) events that are free and open to the public. The festivities will take place starting Saturday morning at the Tsalanang Sports Ground in Braamfisher, followed by a battle of the DJ’s at Kara Lounge in the evening and winding down with praise at the Fountain of Life Worship Centre in Pretoria on Sunday.

Munghana Lonene FM launches their heritage day celebrations with a star studded concert starting Saturday at 10h00 at the Tsalanang Sports Ground. On hand to entertain the crowd will be Sir Jambatini, Marhoya Chauke, Percy Mfana, Timintsu Ta Vatsonga to name a few.  The evening “Battle of the DJ’s” event takes place at Kara Lounge in Pretoria starting at 18h00. Audience can look forward to  competition  between Afrikan roots, DJ Sushy, DJ Trendy, Given Mabunda, DJ Lolo and many more of the hottest DJ’s around competing for the crowd. Entrance is free.

The  festivities close with “Empfuxelelweni” – Thembzana reloaded with Dr Ezrom Mathumbu, hosted by Pastor Ray Sono on Sunday from 18h00-22h00. The faith-filled line-up will gather at the Fountain of Life Worship Centre in Pretoria. Praise and worship artists and pastors to be featured include Pastor Lungi, Mabongi, Lufuno Dagada, Moses Muthundinne, Collen Maluleke, Bishop Malumane and Eunice Nwa Rich as a start.

Johannesburg – Friday, 16 September 2022 – Umhlobo Wenene FM’s 62nd birthday competition, run in partnership with Collective Records, has come to a close. This afternoon, after the 123 Pholaz unplugged session with Amaza Ntshanga, the lucky winner will drive off in a brand new Renault Kwid vehicle from the SABC Auckland Park offices.

The competition ‘Phumelela isithuthi kuMhlobo’ launched on Monday, 1 August 2022 and the lucky winner, Thokozani Susani, from Mamelodi in Tshwane, was chosen from four (4) finalists on 31 August.

Johannesburg – Friday, 9 September 2022 – The SABC’s radio giants, Ukhozi FM, Umhlobo Wenene FM, Ligwalagwala FM, Ikwekwezi, Munghana Lonene, Thobela FM, Motsweding and Lesedi FM will participate in various simulcasts,  demonstrating the SABC’s commitment to  a diverse and united  society.

Johannesburg-Wednesday, 7 September 2022-The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Radio portfolio has once again cemented its authority within the radio broadcasting industry by recording the highest number of the nominations for the 2022 Radio Awards.

Yesterday, SABC Radio received a total of 111 nominations from a total of 28 categories of the Radio Awards. These nominations are an indication that SABC radio brands continue to dominate a broadcast environment characterised by increased competition.

Group Executive for SABC Radio, Ms Nada Wotshela stated, “We are delighted for this recognition. It is commendable that despite our dominance over many years, our teams have continued to strengthen our on-air programming and off-air activities to deliver a quality product to our audiences. THOBELA FM “Mošate Wa Tsebo Le Boithabišo“

SABC recognizes its Sepedi radio station, Thobela FM this September. Thobela FM started in 1960 as Radio Bantu, which characterized all the marginalized ethnic groups of the time. It was then called Radio Lebowa in 1962, reflecting the name of the former homeland – Lebowa. Some of the station popular programmes during that era included Sebokuboku, Tate Sekwakwalala, Tla Moya, Nteletse, Baithuti Kgothekgothe, and Na molao o reng? The station commanded over six million listeners at that time. It was also known for its compelling radio dramas, including the radio turned TV show, ‘Di million tsa kiriri’.

The station then inherited its present name, Thobela FM “Mošito o tšwela pele” In 1998 after the democratic dispensation in order to adjust itself with the millennial developments. For the previous decades of its existence, Thobela FM has been one of the best radio stations in South Africa, and number one preferred radio station in the Limpopo Province. The station now enjoys listenership of over 3 million in South Africa and abroad.

In 2014, the station embarked on a new station imaging, changing its slogan to “Mošate Wa Tsebo Le Boithabišo“, which led to winning various accolades including being named “The Best Radio Station“ at the South African Radio Awards.

  6. The SABC will endeavor to notify all the Winners by end of the month of the competition or within a week after the date of the run of the Competition.
  7. If a Winner does not respond to SABC’s notification close of business 5 days after the notification, the SABC reserves the right to withdraw prize entitlement and the prize will be Upon prize forfeiture, no compensation will be given.

  17. If one or more conditions of these Terms and Conditions are void and/or invalid, this will not affect the validity of the remaining Terms and Conditions and/or any other specific terms for the contest.
  18. By entering any this Competition, Each Entrant confirms that they have read and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and by the decisions of the SABC, which are final in all matters relating to the Competition. SABC MEDIA RELATIONS TEAM CELEBRATES KEY MEDIA STAKEHOLDERS

On Friday, 26 August 2022, the Media Relations team met with two of its key media stakeholders to celebrate their respective nominations for ‘Entertainment Journalist of the Year at the 1st Annual Basadi in Music Awards, set to take place soon.

The Media Relations Managers in the department, Ms. Mmoni Seapolelo and Ms. Vuyo Mthembu, as well as the Head of Communications and Stakeholder Relations, Ms. Ndileka Cola and engaged Ms. Doreen Molefe, the Digital Entertainment Editor at Daily Sun and Ms. Bambalele, a Senior Arts and Entertainment Reporter at Sowetan on their respective achievement.

Over the years, the Media Relations team has worked well with both media colleagues and celebrating this milestone in their respective careers, was a small token of appreciate for the fair and balanced coverage they have provided on SABC television and Radio programmes, personalities and initiatives.
