SABC CAMERA EQUIPMENT STOLEN AT ZONDO COMMISSION OF INQUIRY HEARINGS

Johannesburg – Monday, 26 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) would like to inform the public that its camera equipment was stolen at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry hearings today, during lunch time.

SABC AND MR KAIZER KGANYAGO PART WAYS

Johannesburg – Saturday, 24 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), wishes to announce the departure of Kaizer Kganyago from the SABC.

Mr Kganyago’s contract expires at the end of January 2019 and he requested to be released from his contract effective Friday, 23 November 2018 instead of serving his contract until end of January 2019.

SABC TAKES ACTION AGAINST ALLEGED PERPETRATORS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Johannesburg- Thursday, 22 November 2018 – The Commission of Inquiry into Sexual Harassment appointed by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on 1 June 2018 to investigate instances of sexual harassment at the Corporation completed its work on 31 October 2018. The Commission, which is independent from the SABC, presented its final report which was accepted in its entirety by the SABC board.

THE SABC NOTES WITH REGRET THE STATEMENT ISSUED BY SAFA ON 17 NOVEMBER 2018

Johannesburg – Saturday, 17 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), would like to place on record that it made a commercially viable offer that would enable it to deliver football matches to South African audiences on SABC platforms and this offer was rejected by SAFA.

This followed the expiry of the previous contract between SAFA and the SABC. The high cost of sports rights coupled with low revenues has played a critical role in the solvency of the Corporation.

The offer put to SAFA for a new agreement was based on the revenue the SABC has made on the sports rights. Furthermore, the offer excluded the full production costs and marketing costs the SABC would incur in the broadcast of matches.

SABC MEETS WITH ORGANISED LABOUR IN THE FIRST CONSULTATION MEETING REGARDING SECTION 189 OF THE LABOUR RELATIONS ACT (LRA)

Johannesburg – Tuesday, 13 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Management met with organised labour as planned on 13 November 2018, in the first consultation meeting in relation to the contemplated Section 189 process, under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in terms of the applicable regulations.

THOBELA FM GOSPEL FESTIVAL TO TAKE PLACE ON 17 NOVEMBER 2018

Polokwane – Monday, 12 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) radio station Thobela FM, will be hosting its annual Thobela FM Gospel Festival in partnership with the Polokwane Municipality on 17 November 2018, at the Polokwane Cricket Club from 11h00 until 00h00. The station sees this festival as a vehicle for nation building and social cohesion, and the theme for this year is ‘Hope’.

The station has put together an interesting line up of renowned gospel artists like Dr. Rebecca Malope, Winnie Mashaba, Sipho Makhabane, Solly Moholo, Andile Kamajola, Sechaba, Peter Mabula, Ngwana Ledwaba, Tshepo Nkadimeng, Mphoza Mashabela, and many others.

SABC NOTES COMPETITION COMMISSION RULING ON THE 2013 SABC/MULTICHOICE AGREEMENT

Johannesburg, Monday, 12 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has noted with concern the Competition Commission’s ruling on the SABC and Multichoice agreement entered into in July 2013 and which has since expired.

The Commission’s ruling found that the encryption part of the 2013 agreement amounted to a notifiable merger and recommended that the SABC and Multichoice file the 2013 agreement as a merger with respect to the encryption part of that agreement.

SABC ANNOUNCES MZANSI SUPER LEAGUE (MSL) BROADCAST SCHEDULE

Johannesburg – Friday, 09 November 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to release the broadcast schedule for the Mzansi Super League (MSL), in which the SABC has partnered with Cricket South Africa (CSA) to broadcast the tournament live and exclusive on SABC platforms.

The hashtag for the league is #MSLT20 and this partnership will allow the SABC to bring the much anticipated #MSLT20 to millions of audiences across the country using the power of SABC Television, Radio and Digital platforms.

SABC ACCEPTS MEMORANDUM DELIVERED BY ORGANISED LABOUR

Johannesburg, Friday 09 November 2018 –The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has noted the peaceful picketing/protests which took place at the various SABC offices around the country by Broadcasting, Electronic, Media & Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) and Communications Workers Union (CWU).

Memoranda were delivered by the respective Unions and the SABC will review the memoranda and respond to organised labour.
