LAUNCH OF CAMPAIGN AGAINST FEMICIDE AND RAPE

Johannesburg – Wednesday, 19 February 2020 – SABC Education has launched a campaign to raise awareness and drive public education focusing on the scourge of Femicide and Rape, that continues to haunt our country. Central to the campaign is the reality that on a daily basis, South Africans deal with the horror of rapes and murders that affect primarily, women and the girl child.

SABC DENIES SALE OF SABC 3, METRO FM, 5FM AND GOOD HOPE FM

Johannesburg- Monday, 10 February 2020 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has been made aware of an article by Inside Politics African Narrative published on 04 February 2020, claiming to have exclusive access to a document titled ‘Repurposing the State Owned Enterprises as Instruments for Economic Growth’.  According to the article the document proposes, amongst other things, that government should privatise SABC3, Metro FM, 5FM and Good Hope FM.

MICHAEL OWEN PRODUCTIONS WITHDRAWS COURT APPLICATION AGAINST SABC

Johannesburg – Tuesday 28 January 2020 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce that the court application by Michael Owen Productions (MOP) against the SABC has been withdrawn by the applicant. The Notice of Withdrawal was delivered to the SABC’s attorneys on the 27th of January 2020.

Johannesburg – Friday, 13 December 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has once again been declared as the most trusted public institution in South Africa according to the 2019 South African Reconciliation Barometer (SARB) survey conducted by the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR).

SABC BOARD AND MANAGEMENT PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON KEY ISSUES TO THE DEPUTY MINISTER, MS. PINKY KEKANA

Johannesburg- Tuesday, 17 December 2019- The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board and management have today met with the Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms. Pinky Kekana who has been delegated oversight of the SABC.

The purpose of the meeting was to obtain a progress update on various matters, with a key focus on the pre-conditions of funding, status of the implementation of the turnaround plan, and the expenditure of the bailout that was granted in October 2019.  The board provided a detailed breakdown and report of the expenditure to date.

This meeting was critical to provide the Deputy Minister with feedback on the bailout’s expenditure in line with the priorities outlined by National Treasury, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC), and the SABC Board. These priorities include settling of outstanding debts, investment in technology, maintenance of buildings, and investment in local content.

The SABC is pleased that the Deputy Minister is satisfied with the progress made and reporting thus far, with some of the highlights being that there has been significant progress made on the turnaround plan, and delivering in accordance with the commitments made.

SABC CALLS ON THE CLASS OF 2019 TO USE THE SABC EDUCATION MATRIC RESULTS SERVICE

Johannesburg Tuesday, 10 December 2019 – SABC Education in partnership with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) would like to encourage all the 2019 Grade 12 learners to register on the SABC’s 2019 matric results service in order to easily access their final examination results.  All Grade 12 learners are eligible to use this service from 05 December 2019 until 31 January 2020.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) commercial television channel, SABC 3, has embarked on a process to review its overall performance regarding the schedule‘s key pillars and programming investments. This review is in line with the channel adapting to the current changes in the media landscape and the increase in audience and revenue performance targets.
