Cape Town – Wednesday, 19 August 2026 – Taste of Cape Town and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) today announced a landmark partnership that places the country’s public broadcaster at the heart of South Africa’s return to the global Taste Festival stage. The SABC joins as the official broadcast partner of Taste of Cape Town, taking place on 28 and 29 November 2026 at the Green Point Cricket Club.
As the official broadcast partner of Taste of Cape Town, the SABC will play a key role in bringing the excitement, flavours and stories of the festival to audiences across the country.
This partnership unites two institutions that belong to the people of South Africa. For generations, the SABC has shared the nation’s stories in every language, across every province, and into millions of homes. Taste of Cape Town exists to tell one of those stories in its richest form: the story of what South Africans cook, share and gather around. Together, the two partners will carry the sights, sounds, flavours, and faces of the festival from Cape Town to audiences nationwide, connecting communities through a shared celebration of food, culture and identity.
The SABC’s decision to partner with Taste of Cape Town is rooted in a simple belief that South African culinary culture deserves a national stage. From shisa nyama culture to the country’s world-class fine dining establishments, food is where South Africans meet each other. The public broadcaster recognises that Taste of Cape Town, part of the internationally acclaimed Taste Festival portfolio spanning cities such as London, Paris, São Paulo, Dubai, and now Cape Town, is poised to become a landmark event on the national calendar. The festival will showcase South Africa’s chefs, restaurants, winemakers, producers and emerging culinary talent, while presenting the country’s diverse food culture to both local and global audiences.
Themba Gwejela, Group Executive: Corporate Affairs and Marketing at SABC, said: “The SABC exists to serve all South Africans, and few things bring us together quite like food. When we looked at Taste of Cape Town, we saw a shared purpose of celebrating the stories, cultures and communities that make our country unique through food. South Africa’s culinary landscape is one of our greatest national assets. From celebrated chefs and winemakers to home cooks and food entrepreneurs, these are the people who tell the story of our nation, through flavour, creativity and connection. As the country’s only public broadcaster, we are proud to provide a platform that amplifies those stories and makes them accessible to audiences everywhere.
Taste of Cape Town is set to become a flagship event on South Africa’s cultural calendar, and we are excited to bring that energy and talent to audiences across the country.”
Bonnke Shipalana, Group CEO of The Allure Group SA and licence holder of the Taste Festival in South Africa, said: “This partnership moves me personally. I grew up with the SABC in my home, as most South Africans did. It is the voice we trust, in the languages we dream in. Taste of Cape Town was never designed to be a festival for a few thousand ticket holders on the Atlantic Seaboard. It was designed to feed every sense of an entire nation. With the SABC beside us, a gogo in Nkowankowa, a student in Gqeberha, and a family in Galeshewe will all experience the festival together. That is what we mean when we say this is a Taste Festival for the people, by the people, serving the people. The SABC did not simply buy into an event. They believed in South African food culture before the first gate opens, and that belief is the foundation of a flagship event this country will be proud of for years to come.”
The Partnership
As the official broadcast partner, the SABC will bring Taste of Cape Town to audiences across its television, radio, and digital platforms, including SABC Plus, with coverage before, during, and after the festival weekend. The partnership will spotlight the chefs, restaurants, and producers behind the festival, and carry the “Feed Every Sense” campaign into communities far beyond Cape Town.
