Johannesburg – Thursday 13 December 2018 – The first leg of SABC 1’s Coast to Coast Tour in partnership with Cell C hit the Durban coast with a bang on 7 to 9 December 2018, leaving thousands of the channel’s loyal viewers pleading for more.

The second leg of the Coast to Coast Tour promises to deliver more of ‘Everything Summer’ when SABC 1 and Cell C pay a visit to the friendly city of Port Elizabeth (PE) from 14 to 16 December 2018.

The PE leg of the tour will be supported by our sister radio stations Umhlobo Wenene FM and trufm. The tour will also be headlined by the biggest music show in the land, Live Amp, which will carry a live broadcast from the Cubana Restaurant on Friday 14 December at 19h30. The ever-so-popular variety show, Selimathunzi, will also be in attendance to capture the fun and excitement generated by the tour.

SABC TV PR Head, Zandile Nkonyeni stated: “It’s been quite a good year on-air for SABC 1 in terms of dishing out exciting content for our audiences and that is why we are excited about the opportunity to finally connect up-close and personal with our viewers in the coastal regions.”

Institutions and/or individuals are hereby invited to nominate persons to fill eight (8) vacancies of non-executive members to the Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation Limited, which arose from the withdrawal of Ms Nomvuyiso Batyi and the resignation of Ms Rachel Kalidass, Ms Febbe Potgieter-Gqubule, Mr Victor Rambau, Mr Krish Naidoo, Ms Khanyisile Kweyama, Mr John Matisson and Mr Mathatha Tsedu for the remainder of the term of office of the current Board as stipulated in Section 13(8) of the Broadcasting Act, No 4 of 1999.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation was established in terms of the Broadcasting Act (1936) as a government enterprise to provide radio and television broadcasting services to South Africa.

Members of the Board, when viewed collectively, must be persons who: · are suited to serve on the Board by virtue of their qualifications, expertise and experience in the fields of broadcasting policy and technology, broadcasting regulation, media law, business practice and finance, marketing, journalism, entertainment and education, social and labour issues · are committed to fairness, freedom of expression, the right of the public to be informed, as well as openness and accountability on the part of those holding public office · represent a broad cross-section of the population of the Republic · are committed to the objectives and principles as enunciated in the Charter of the SABC · are South African citizens permanently resident in the Republic.

SABC News has been carrying several stories and interviews with various stakeholders, regarding the dire financial situation of the public broadcaster.

Johannesburg – Saturday, 08 December 2018 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to inform the South African public and soccer loving fans that the SABC and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) have reached an agreement for the live broadcast of PSL matches on SABC radio stations, including on SABC television channel SABC 1.   This follows a series of engagements between the parties in an effort to find a solution.

Johannesburg – Friday, 07 December 2018 – Following an intensive investigation process by the Commission of Inquiry into Sexual Harassment at the SABC, which completed its work at the end of October 2018, the organisation is implementing the recommendations of the Commission. In this regard, the SABC has suspended the alleged perpetrators identified in the Commission’s report.

The alleged perpetrators were served with requisite notices to afford them an opportunity to make  written submissions as to why they believe the preliminary suspensions should not be made final. Following due consideration of the written submissions, the SABC believes it has sufficient grounds to investigate further and has consequently issued suspension notices to the alleged perpetrators confirming their suspensions, pending a disciplinary enquiry.

The Commission’s report identified additional employees who may not be alleged perpetrators of sexual harassment but who may be found to have been complicit by either aiding or abetting sexual harassment, through their act of omission or commission. The SABC is in the process of formulating charges in line with HR policies and legislation.
