MZANSI SUPER LEAGUE IS BACK ON SABC

Johannesburg- Friday, 08 November 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is thrilled to announce that SABC 3 and select SABC radio stations will once again broadcast all  the upcoming Mzansi Super League (MSL) T20 matches. The broadcast of the 32 match tournament will commence on Friday, 8^th of November 2019 until Monday, the 16^th of December 2019.

The league comprises of six teams, playing in six different cities across the country made up of some of  South Africa and the world’s greatest T20 cricket players.

As a result some of the cricket matches the scheduling of regular programming on SABC 3 will be affected.  A detailed schedule is attached.

Radio 2000 will broadcast all the 32 matches live, providing ball by ball commentary. The live broadcasts on Radio 2000 also mean normal programming will be disrupted and slots that will be mainly affected will be between 09h00-18h00. RSG and Umhlobo Wenene FM will provide live reports on the matches, with Umhlobo Wenene FM also providing full ball by ball commentary of all the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants matches in Port Elizabeth.

SABC radio stations Metro FM, SAfm, Lotus FM, 5FM, Good Hope FM will also cover the tournament via live crossings, sports headlines, bulletins, interviews and sports lifestyle programmes.

SABC radio stations have adopted the participating teams as follows:

• Metro FM – Jozi Stars
• Radio 2000- Tshwane Spartans
• Umhlobo Wenene FM – Nelson Mandela Bay Giants
• Good Hope FM – Paarl Rocks and Cape Town Blitz
• Lotus FM – Durban Heat

This initiative is a continuation of the previous TV licence campaign which featured a series of #madepossiblebyyou stories told by SABC television and radio personalities.

Johannesburg – Monday, 28 October 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with SuperSport to broadcast the final game of the 2019 Rugby World Cup between South Africa and England, live on SABC 2 on Saturday the 2nd of November at 11h00.

Johannesburg – Friday, 18 October 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce that SABC Education will be kick-staring the exam season for matriculants, with the series ‘Geleza Nathi’ which will be providing critical revisions on subjects.

The six-week long series is scheduled to go live on SABC 1 from Monday, 21 October 2019 until Friday, 29 November 2019 between 5:00am and 6:00am. Subjects covered in the series include Maths, Physical Sciences, English FAL, Life Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Geography and History.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) would like to officially announce that SABC 3 programme ‘Top Billing’ will be airing its final episode on Saturday, 19 October 2019.

The series has continuously brought viewers a taste of the good life by showcasing some of South Africa’s grandest homes, explored a magnitude of breath-taking countries, brought South Africans closer to some of the biggest stars around the world, hung out with our local celebrities and witnessed many of them say ‘I Do’.

Johannesburg – Sunday, 13 October 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and the South African Football Association (SAFA) are pleased to announce that they have reached a four (4) year agreement on the broadcast rights of SAFA matches and events.

Johannesburg – Wednesday, 02 October 2019 – The Board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr Ian Plaatjies as the Corporation’s new Chief Operations Officer (COO). Mr Plaatjies will commence his duties from 01 November 2019.

Mr Plaatjies joins the SABC from the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) where he is the Chief Digital Officer.  He has more than 30 years’ experience in various industries, including telecommunications, mining, banking and the financial services sector.  Mr Plaatjies has held the senior executive positions of Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) at SBV and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Absa Group Payments, respectively.

Johannesburg – Wednesday 02 October 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Njanji Chauke as the Editor of the SABC News Channel (24-hour News Channel) with effect from 01 October 2019.

Mr Chauke is a multi-skilled media professional, with a journalism career that spans over 22 years. He began his broadcast career on campus radio at Tshwane University of Technology, where he obtained a Diploma in Journalism.

Johannesburg – Monday 30 September 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) 2018/19 Annual Report was tabled in Parliament today.  In celebrating 25 years of democracy, the public broadcaster has delivered on its extensive public service mandate despite very challenging conditions.
