Johannesburg – Tuesday, 16 April 2024 – METRO FM is excited to announce Tebogo “Proverb” Thekisho and Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha as the main hosts for the upcoming METRO FM Music Awards 2024 (MMA24). The awards are taking place on Saturday, 27 April 2024 at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

 

Proverb says, “It is an honor to host the METRO FM Awards 2024. The SA music scene is constantly filled with rich, vibrant stories of our ever resilient and evolving country and the nominated artists are testament to this.”

 

Luthando Loot Love Shosha will bring a distinct flair to the program, as the radio and television presenter recently returned to METRO FM to co-host ‘The Touchdown’ with Thabo “Tbo Touch” Molefe.

 

Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha says, “I’m thrilled and deeply honored to be hosting the 2024 edition of the METRO FM Music Awards. It’s also a monumental career moment, as I step into the role of hosting my first awards ceremony. I’m eager to bring joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments to the awards show, alongside Proverb. The station has lined up a dynamic team to hold down the entire awards night. TV personality and co-host of ‘The Penthouse Sessions’, Lamiez Holworthy and 5FM’s Afternoon Drive presenter Zanele Potelwa, will co-host and capture all the winners thrill from the ‘Green Room’.

 

The ‘Best Mornings’ host DJ Sabby and SABC 1 presenter, Nomalanga Shozi will bring all the action from the Motsepe Foundation sponsored ‘Black Carpet.

 

This year’s event takes place against the backdrop of 30 years of South Africa’s democracy. The station is honoring this with the theme ‘Black To The Future’, which is a celebration of the achievements and contributions of black artists in the music industry.

 

Kina Nhlengethwa, METRO FM’s Business Manager states, “SA music is thriving, attracting new audiences globally and inspiring black excellence. It was only fitting that this year’s theme be carried by some of the industry’s best presenters, who bring a wealth of knowledge about diverse facets of the SA arts and entertainment scene.”

 

The awards will be broadcast live on SABC 1 and streaming service SABC Plus, at 20:00.

 

The METRO FM Awards 2024 are hosted by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, and proudly sponsored by Motsepe Foundation. In an effort to add more value to the awards, each category will receive R50 000 and the Song of the Year winner will walk away with R150 000, courtesy of the Motsepe Foundation. In addition, Santam is sponsoring the Best New Artist category.

Johannesburg – Saturday, 13 April 2024 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) News and Current Affairs division will broadcast one of its brand-new flagship Current Affairs programme, Elections 360 on Sunday 14 April 2024 at 19h00.

This show comes at the time when the country is getting ready for the upcoming national elections set to take place on 29 May 2024, and will be presented by two seasoned journalists with wealth of experience, Sakina Kamwendo and Blain Herman.

The Group Executive for News and Current Affairs, Mr. Moshoeshoe Monare said that Elections 360 will be highly interactive, audience driven, fast paced and will encapsulate robust debates that will allow ordinary citizens an opportunity to voice their opinions and express themselves”.

 

The first broadcast of Elections 360 will take place at the SABC’s M1 Studio in Auckland Park and will kick off with tackling the issue of immigration and border management in the country. As part of showcasing the SABC’s wide footprint and ensuring that the voice of the people is heard, Elections 360 debates will be rolled out in other townhalls across the country with special Outside Broadcasts.

MEDIA STATEMENT | SABC SPORT TO BROADCAST THE SECOND LEG OF THE QUARTER FINAL MATCH (CAF) OF MAMELODI SUNDOWNS AND YOUNG AFRICANS USING VAR TECHNOLOGY

Johannesburg – Friday, 5 April 2024 – SABC Sport, host broadcaster for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in South Africa, is proud to announce that the second leg of the quarter final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Young Africans at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, will be the very first production by SABC Sport, to incorporate Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the presentation of the match.

 

SABC Sport will broadcast the match live today at 20h00 on SABC 3. The usage of VAR is a key milestone for SABC Sport as this is a technology enabled match official in association football who assists the referee by reviewing decisions using video footage and providing advice to the referee based on those reviews. VAR system keep a record of reviewable incidents and communicate the outcome of a review to broadcasters.

Ms. Keletso Totlhanyo, Head of SABC Sport stated, “This is a very exciting development for SABC Sport and will add a whole new dimension to this league. SABC Sport continuously explores thrilling and innovative ways to present football matches to our diverse audiences. MEDIA STATEMENT | LIGWALAGWALA FM MAKES EXCITING CHANGES TO ITS 2024 LINE-UP

Mbombela – Thursday, 28 March 2024 – The SABC’s Siswati broadcasting radio station, Ligwalagwala FM, is celebrating its 42nd anniversary in 2024 and the station has several thrilling activities in store for its listeners. With effect from April 1, 2024, Ligwalagwala FM will make changes to its line-up with the aim of ensuring that the station continues to be counted among the best in the country. The station currently has a listenership of over 1.3 million and is continuing its growth trajectory on digital media. With these exciting changes, listeners can expect more education, information, and entertainment from their Pride of The Nation.

Ligwalagwala FM listeners will see one of Mpumalanga’s most celebrated comedians, Ngcozi Yebo, joining the station’s breakfast team. The multi-talented Ngcozi Yebo joins the Kusile Mzansi Show to add some comical flavor to the show which is hosted by the equally gifted DJ Madumane and sports anchor and former professional footballer, Mduduzi Makwakwa, aka ‘Nsimbi’. Another change the station is making will see the Afternoon Drive Show, change its name to Siyahamba Manje Drive ‘SMD’, with Thandeka Tonga, aka, TDK joins Fortune Ntekati and Senzo S, produced by DJ Shabbisto. Nobuhle Ndlovu will now host her solo show, The Hit Parade, on Saturdays. TDK will also continue with her one-woman Sunday show, Siyadvumisa which is now extended from 07h00 – 10h00.

The 18h00-00h00 Saturday slots are swapping which will now see The Zone from 18h00-21h00 being renamed to ‘LFM Es’khaleni’ hosted by The Prince’ and the 21h00-00h00 named ‘Groover nge Swagg’ with the versatile Andiswa Sifunda ‘Bono Swagg’. The seasoned Mawe2N will now host the Kusa Kusa Show, which airs between 03h00 – 06h00 on weekends. Expect a revitalised Saturday mid-morning show with traditional music and everything traditional on “Giy’uphoseke” that will now be presented by the award-winning DJ Choraal.

One of the station’s most loved presenters, Lungile Mhango, will continue doing Tfokomala Nami Show between 09h00 – 12h00 on weekdays with her weekly contributors, Alex Mthethwa for Khuluma Alex and Make Pule for Asitsetsi Siyalungisa. Hlengiwe Sindane, Simphiwe Hlabangane, T-Boy, Fanie Ndinisa ‘Shlabani’ and Sweet Mike continue to form part of the station’s exciting line-up on and off-air. The station’s legendary duo of Shakes Nkuna and Bheki Nxumalo will continue to offer best Sunday evening programming with Sidla Ngaloludzala and the Afro Jazz Show respectively.

Bloemfontein – Thursday, 28 March 2024 – Lesedi FM is pleased to announce the 2024/2025 line up as it continues to position itself as the most trusted source of information, in an effort to retain and attract new listenership.

There are minimal changes on the current line up to ensure the station remains relevant and continues to establish a strong connection with its listeners.

The breakfast show remains unchanged with seasoned co-presenters Seipati “Twasa” Seoke and Nyakallo “Ba2Cada” Leine. Their creativity and innovation is sure to contribute to the show winning awards and growing audiences.

To ensure consistency, there are no changes on the afternoon drive show as well, driven by Moleboheng Maoela and Thabo Mokone.

Fridays on the mid-morning show ‘Itlhabolle’, will never be the same with Sibongile “Sbosh” Sonop leading us into the weekend. She brings along her blissful exuberance and fresh perspective setting the perfect tone for listeners to ease into the weekend.

Nkunyana Nkunyana is a dynamic radio presenter set to take the highly anticipated Friday slot from 12h30 to 15h00. Renowned for his quick wit and infectious humour, Nkunyana brings an energetic and engaging presence to the airwaves. Lerato “Lovers” Mpopo, the charismatic and smooth-talking DJ, is set to take over the Saturday slot for the Top 30 music show, stepping into the shoes of Thabo Mokone. MEDIA STATEMENT  | METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS 2024 NOMINEES ANNOUNCED  

Johannesburg, South Africa – Wednesday, 27 March 2024 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is excited to announce the nominees for the METRO FM Music Awards 2024. These nominations feature music singles and albums released between 28 February 2023 and 28 February 2024. This year, the station received over 1700 entries for the various categories.

 

Internationally acclaimed singer and Grammy award winner, Tyla, leads with six (6) nominations for the song ‘Water’. She is nominated in the categories of Song of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Music Video, Best Viral Challenge and Artist of the Year.

 

Amapiano is at the forefront with both Kabza the Small and Tyler ICU receiving five (5) nominations each. Kabza the Small received nominations for Best Produced Album, Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, Best Amapiano – all the for the song ‘Imithandazo’ featuring Mthunzi. Kabza the Small was also nominated for Best Male Artist.

 

Tyler ICU’s five (5) nominations include Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, Best Viral Challenge, Best Amapiano – all for the ‘Mnike’, which features Tumelo. He was also nominated the Artist of the Year award.

 

Inkabi Zezwe, Sjava and Big Zulu bagged four (4) impressive nominations, two (2) for ‘Ukhamba’ – Best Produced Album and Best African Pop. They were also nominated for Best Collaboration for the song ‘Umbayi Mbayi’.

 

Ms Kina Nhlengethwa, METRO FM Business Manager said, “The METRO FM Music Awards serve as a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of South African music, where melodies become bridges that connect hearts and souls. It’s a platform where artists, both established and emerging, showcase their passion and talent, igniting a symphony of inspiration and creativity. Beyond the glitz and glamour, these awards embody the relentless pursuit of excellence and the unwavering dedication to craft.”

 

Nhlengethwa further stated, “We were delighted with the quality of the entries and the music. The artists that have been entered are truly of a world-class standard that competes with the rest of the musical world.”

 

The theme for the 2024 edition of the awards was also revealed during the nominee announcement. This year’s theme is ‘Black To The Future’, which celebrates the achievements and contributions of black artists in the music industry by highlighting, excellence, creativity, and impact.

 

The awards echo the rhythm of resilience and the harmony of diversity, reminding all that music transcends boundaries and unites the country in a universal language of music.

 

The METRO FM Awards 2024 will take place on 27 April 2024 at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga and will be broadcast live on SABC1.

 

The METRO FM Awards 2024 are brought to you by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, in association with the Motsepe Foundation. In the effort to continuously add more value to the awards the winners of each category will receive R50 000, and the Song of the year winner will walk away with R150 000, courtesy of Motsepe Foundation. In addition, SANTAM is sponsoring the Best New Artist category.

MEDIA STATEMENT |  MUNGHANA LONENE FM INTRODUCES ITS 2024-2025 LINE-UP    

Polokwane Wednesday, 27 March 2024 – Munghana Lonene FM is delighted to announce changes to enhance its line-up, effective from Monday, 1 April 2024.

 

The station will be increasing time allocated for the talk show ‘Afrika wa Vulavula’  by one hour from 12h00 to 14h00, whilst ‘Dzumba na Mina’, a music show will broadcast from 14h00 to 15h00. The popular adult content talk show ‘Gongomela’ continues to broadcast at 00h00 to 03h00 from Mondays to Fridays and will continue to be hosted by Risimati ‘N’wana n’wa Gee’.

 

On Saturdays, Munghana Lonene FM listeners will continue with seasoned broadcaster and household name, Sydney Baloyi who is joined by co-host Ike Ngobeni for the Saturday breakfast show ‘N’wayitelo wa Mugqibela’ from 07h00 to 09h00.

 

Quinton ‘The Qunitonizer’ Baloyi joins Foster ‘Mafosi – Try by force’ Chauke to present the station’s signature Xitsonga traditional music show ‘Timitsu ta Xitsonga’ on Saturdays from 13h00 to 15h00. Popular preacher Dr. KS Maluleke will continue presenting the Sunday morning gospel show ‘Sisimuka u vangama’ with Maningi wa Ntamu from 06h00 to 09h00. Dr Maluleke will be based at the station’s Giyani satellite studios.

 

Munghana Lonene FM is excited to launch its new profile programme ‘Phuphu ya Rixaka’, which means “pillar of the nation” in Xitsonga. This YouTube-based programme aims to inspire listeners by showcasing the incredible stories of individuals who have overcome adversity to achieve success.

 

Phuphu ya Rixaka’ interviews will give the audiences a unique glimpse into the lives of some truly remarkable people. The station will be uncovering untold stories and events that have shaped their lives and sharing their personal experiences. This programme is part of Munghana Lonene FM’s digital growth strategy, and the station is proud to be preserving historical events and personal stories for future generations. It will be hosted by Africa wa Vulavula Khalanga and Pat Mathebula and produced by the multi-talented Munghana Lonene FM Breakfast show host DJ Brian (Brian Rikhotso).

 

‘Phuphu ya Rixaka’ isn’t just about entertainment, it is also about fostering cultural understanding and harmony.
