{"id":8379,"date":"2021-09-21T08:08:31","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T08:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sabc.co.za\/sabc\/sabc\/?p=8379"},"modified":"2021-09-21T08:08:31","modified_gmt":"2021-09-21T08:08:31","slug":"media-statement-sabc-celebrates-our-shared-heritage-in-the-western-cape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sabc.co.za\/sabc\/media-statement-sabc-celebrates-our-shared-heritage-in-the-western-cape\/","title":{"rendered":"MEDIA STATEMENT &#124; SABC CELEBRATES OUR SHARED HERITAGE IN THE WESTERN CAPE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cape Town-Tuesday, 21 September 2021-<\/strong> The South African Broadcasting Corporation in the (SABC) Western Cape will celebrate Heritage Day this Thursday, and listeners are invited to join for the ride.\u00a0 In celebrating the country\u2019s collective heritage, SABC radio stations Good Hope FM, Radio Sonder Grense (RSG), and Umhlobo Wenene FM will take listeners on a journey through time.\u00a0 The celebration themed, \u201cthe incidental Tourist\u201d will take the form of a live travelling broadcast across the three platforms, sharing the rich history of the City\u2019s key locations with listeners.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe broadcast will kick-off in the morning, with live crossings throughout the day offering a multi-lingual and tailored experience for listeners.\u00a0 The route of discovery will take \u201cpassengers\u201d to Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum, which tells the story of the Bo-Kaap\u2019s origins dating back to the 1760s when numerous \u201chuurhuisjes\u201d (rental houses) were built and leased to slaves known as Cape Malays.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nAnother historic site that listeners can anticipate is District 6 where over 60,000 of its inhabitants were forcibly removed by the apartheid regime.
