Angola's ruling party, headed by President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, was ahead by a massive lead in the national elections, according to partial results released today by the electoral commission.

Syria said today it could use chemical weapons in response to any "external aggression" but they would not be used in Bashar al-Assad's campaign to crush a 16-month-old uprising against his rule.
