Bakgatlha Ba Kgafela Sedibelo Festival

Welcoming of Mophato Wa Bomme from Bojale (Arrival and welcoming of women who went through the right of passage)
Motsweding FM prides itself as a sentinel of Setswana language, culture and tradition. One of our key strategic focuses is “Making Setswana Fashionable” in all our business endeavors. It is for this reason that as a station we deem it fit to celebrate and honor Setswana culture and traditions with Bakgatlha Ba Kgafela through both on-air and off-air campaign that spoke to promoting the morality, values and traditions of Setswana.

The station partnered with the Bakgatla Bakgafela Tribal Authority in welcoming 1400 women initiates from the initiation school (Bojale) in Mochudi, Botswana. Motsweding FM was the major media partner at the event attended by dignitaries and royal families from different Batswana Clans, and was praised by the Honorable Chief Nyalala Pilane for always honoring traditions of Setswana and exposing them to our audiences.

The biannual ceremony culminated into song, praise, dance and exhibitions by both men and women of Bakgatlha from South Africa and Botswana. Head of the initiation school, Mme Meiki took its audiences through the meaning of the initiation process in terms of Bakgtlha Ba Kgafela's traditions and cultural beliefs.

The Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela is a tribal community of about 350 000 people, living in the North West Province of South Africa. The tribe is led by Kgosi Nyalala Pilane residing in Moruleng near Rustenburg and this year’s initiation school was done with Bakgatlha- Ba -kgafela in Botswana led by Kgosi Kgafela- Kgafela.
