100% Access to water by 2014. Government plans to invest billions in water resources countrywide over the next ten years. Meanwhile several towns are without drinkable water. Population growth and bad management are blamed for the country’s stressed water resources. Several towns across the country has been without water for days. In Senekal in the Free State residents have not had access to water since 9 August while the local state hospital is struggling to make ends meet. Patients can’t be washed and water has to be transported to the facility. We speak to the Water Affairs Department about this state of affairs and government’s planned investment in water security.
