SABC1 Youth Day Symposium 2017  |  Thursday 15 June 2017 10:00


Johannesburg, Wednesday 14 June, 2017 The inaugural SABC 1 Youth Day Symposium is well under way for this Friday 16 June 2017.  The event will be held under the banner - #OwnYourSpace - thus encouraging young people to take charge of their lives and become active agents of her own destinies.

The Channel has just confirmed the line-up of speakers in:  Vuyo Dabula (Generations’ Gadaffi); Tumelo Mothotoane (TV Presenter, Radio Show Host, Motivational Speaker); Vuyisile Zondi (Young Entrepreneur with her own skincare product range) Sydney Malibo (One Day Leader Winner); Pepsi Pokane (Entrepreneur, Producer, Presenter); amongst others, who will be there to provide motivation and to inspire the youth of Mzansi.

The event will start at 10am on Friday 16 June 2017 at the Shine Studios in Braamfontein, taking over the Daily Thetha studio on the day. Our Twitter page @official_sabc1 will provide a live stream from the event for the benefit of youth not able to gain physical access.  

“Television is the most pervasive medium impacting a large number of people on a daily basis. The Youth Day Symposium serves to entrench SABC 1’s position as an active role player in the forefront of youth culture and a pioneer in SA youth developmental issues,” says Clara Nzima, Head of SABC 1. “Our goal is to offer young people a platform to discuss issues affecting their lives. We want re-awaken the resilient spirit of the youth to face their challenges by motivating and empowering them to not only see opportunities, but to grab them with both hands and be architects of their future.”
Students between the ages of 16 - 20 will be the bulk of the audience in attendance at the event including SABC 1’s Youth Day Competition winners and their partners. The attendees will not only have an opportunity to gain some insights from industry greats, but will also get the opportunity to mingle with their favourite SABC 1’s personalities.  
The event offers a great platform for young people to discuss their issues and come up with solutions on how to improve their lives.
