Goodhope FM campus DJ search 2012  |  Thursday 5 April 2012 11:44

GHFM

For the third year running, Good Hope FM will again give students at various campuses across the Peninsula the opportunity to win an on-air DJ contract on the station during the Good Hope FM Campus DJ Search 2012.

The aim of this search is to find the best on air DJ from campuses around the city.  Campuses that agreed to participate in this search are the University of the Western Cape (UWC), University of Stellenbosch, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Bellville and Varsity College in Rondebosch.

Due to the overwhelming response in 2010 and 2011, it was decided to also open the floor for students who attend smaller independent tertiary institutions and they will have the opportunity to enter as wild cards at Canal Walk to test their skills in the Campus DJ Search.

“The first Campus DJ Search winner in 2010, Nosipo Tisani from CPUT Cape Town, showed such potential that she is now a permanent part of the Good Hope FM team and hosts a show every Saturday morning on the station.  The 2011 winner, Dell Mabunda, from the University of Stellenbosch, has just completed her contract and she was also the second female winner in this competition,”   says Programme Manager Gerard Muller. “We look forward to the new Good Hope FM Campus DJ Search 2012, as it is a massive opportunity for Good Hope FM to get in touch with fresh new talent and also creates an exceptional break for a young individual to enter the commercial radio arena.”

Any student who considers themselves the next well versed motor mouth, smooth, clued up, conversational on air DJ with a pinch of attitude will be looked at.  Good Hope FM will visit five campuses and Canal Walk, select a finalist from each of those venues and select one winner who will win a contract to host his/her own show on Good Hope FM.  The winner will receive a contract to be trained and be on-air DJ at Good Hope FM for a year.

Most campuses will be visited over a two day period, (with the exception of the University of Stellenbosch and Canal Walk that will handle entries on one day only). The first day will be an open MIC session, where anyone can try out and the panel of judges will then choose a group of finalists.  On day two, the finalists from that campus will get to try out again in order for the panel of judges to then choose one person who will represent their campus in the final, on-air leg of this competition.  Once all the venues have been visited and a representative (finalist) from each venue has been selected, each finalist will get the opportunity to co-host a show with Stan Mars (Mondays to Thursdays from 22:00 to 02:00).  The judges will then determine who the overall winner will be and will offer the winner a DJ contract on Good Hope FM.

Ebrahiem Inglis will be the MC at all the campuses to guide all the contenders through the judging process.  The rotating panel of judges will include Guy McDonald (host of Good Hope FM Breakfast with Guy McDonald), Nigel Pierce (host of The Nigel Pierce Show), SeanO (host of the Ozone and the Good Hope FM Top 30), Carl Wastie (host of The Teen Show), Stephanie B (host of the Weekend Breakfast Show), Gerard Muller (Programme Manager) and Natano Brache (Station Manager).

Each of the campuses below will be visited from 11:30 for registration, with the auditions taking place from 12:00 to 13:00 each day to hand-pick a finalist:
10 & 11 April - Varsity College Rondebosch
16 & 17 April - CPUT Bellville (Dome of Remembrance)
19 April - University of Stellenbosch (Neelsie Food Arena) (one day only from 12:00 to 14:00)
23 & 30 April - CPUT Cape Town (the Piazza)
24 & 25 April - University of the Western Cape (UWC) (Student Centre)

To give students from independent institutions the opportunity to also try out for the Good Hope FM Campus DJ Search 2012, they can visit Canal Walk (Food Court) between 12:00 and 14:00 (registration from 11:30) on Saturday, 5 May, where an hour will be made available for auditions, followed by an hour for the finals.  Nigel Pierce will be the MC  at Canal Walk to oversee and guide the wild card entrants.
