BCCSA rules in favour of the SABC  |  Thursday 8 June 2017 09:21

Johannesburg, Wednesday, 07 June 2017 – The Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA), today ruled in favour of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in relation to Isidingo episodes, which were broadcast on the 26th of April, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May 2017.

The episodes portrayed scenes where a Black character was assaulted by two White farmers.

The Registrar of the BCCSA in this regard received several complaints from viewers. The BCCSA reviewed the episodes and found that the public service broadcaster was not in contravention of clause 4(1) or (2) or any other clause of the Code of Conduct of the BCCSA. The complaints were therefore not upheld.

The SABC as a public service broadcaster will always strive to depict what is happening in our society as they are, whilst upholding its editorial policy and the BCCSA’s code of conduct.
