Farmer to Pharmacy tells the story of Zanele, who is a young traditional healer, on a quest to validate the safety, efficacy and quality of traditional African medicine through scientific means. We also meet Mirranda, who is a traditional healer employed by a scientific institution, and Gilbert who is a scientist by profession. [Watch SABC TV Heritage Promo]

The relationship between the traditional healer and the scientist is further explored in the conflict and/ or harmony that arise from this collaboration. The traditional health practitioner’s pursuit for the recognition and acceptance of traditional African medicine becomes the underlying theme to this film. Farmer to Pharma engages the viewer on their belief systems and gives them a sense of pride in forming their identity. The film honours the ways of our ancestors when it comes to medicine and healing. It celebrates the validity of traditional African medicine in modern times.
