Mission
Our business is to broadcast in !Xun & Khwe on X-K fm. We recognize that our business’ existence and continued success is depending on how well we meet our responsibilities to all ages and how well X-K fm serves the two communities and their needs with quality programming

Values
Our first responsibility lies towards the !Xun Khwe San listeners, without whom we have no reason for being. We strive to use radio as ultimate tool in educating, uplifting and the preparation into bigger society.

About  X-K Fm
Broadcast area; 30 km  radius around Platfontein, wich is approximately  15 km from Kimberley on the road to Barkley West, in the Northern Cape.


Target audience:  X-K Fm target the the San people of Platfontein in the Northern Cape.This community, consisting of the !Xun who makes up 64% of listeners, and the Khwe, falls into LSM 1-6 just under a third of listeners are aged  16-24, 30% are over 50, 34% are 25-34 and 15% are aged 35-49. 59% of house hold in the area earn under R500 per month, 32% earn between R500 and R899. and 5% earn between R900 and


  R1 399. 25% are educated up to primary school, and  17% have some high school education or Matric. Platfontein has slightly more females then Kimberley or the Northern Cape, but this may be explained by Male community members being away at Army bases where some continue to be employed.

Cultural background.
The San people consist of two distinct communities,  who do not understand each other dialects, so they communicate in Afrikaans . The bigger group is the pure San group, the !Xun. who are physically smaller, and have more clicks in their language.


The second group is the Khwe , who have intermarried with Angolans, making them taller, heavier people with fewer clicks in their dialect. The older people of this community are still connected to their traditions, culture and religion, while the youth are more interested in the Morden way.  Younger people still how ever , go to the elders for advice, and there are traditional community leaders.


The San are devoid Christians, but still practise their traditional rites and trance dances, for which they dress in their traditional dress. This society is patriarchal, with, with men occupying leadership position.

Broadcasting language:  !Xun , Khwe &Afrikaans as a bridging   language.


Format: the format consists of talk and music, with a strong focus  on  the San culture.  Music played is predominantly traditional San music, as well as SA music and a small amount of international music.


Talk revolves around  traditional cultural maters, and life  in the community, The presenters adopt a very friendly, colloquial tone.
