Advocacy group, Equal Education, has singled out a lack of knowledge of content by teachers as one of the biggest problems in South Africa's education system.

It says although many teachers are qualified, some lack the knowledge to be effective in the classroom. Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Monday announced the 2014 matric pass rate which stands at 75.8%, a decrease of 2.4%.

Speaking on AM Live, the group's spokesperson Nombulelo Nyathela says it is important that teachers receive proper training.
