The South African Communist Party’s (SACP) Second Deputy General Secretary, Solly Mapaila, has called on President Jacob Zuma to cut ties with the Gupta family.
This comes after Deputy Minister of Finance Mcebisi Jonas broke his silence that members of the Gupta family have offered him a job of a Minister of Finance. This position was to replace the then Minister of Finance, Nhlanlha Nene.
Upon his replacement, the rand plummeted to record lows against the pound and the euro.
Speaking on AM Live, Mapaila, who has previously called for a probe into the Guptas and the corporate capture of government by businesses, congratulated Jonas for his boldness in coming out and providing proof.
"We want to get rid of the problem of corporate capture. Corporate capture undermines the ANC, government, alliance and the public."

Meanwhile, Executive Director of Corruption Watch, Dave Lewis, says he is not surprised by Jona’s decision to break his silence as he has integrity, but is disappointed that he did not report it to the police.
