Furniture removal companies in price collusion scandal

The Competition Tribunal is looking into implicated companies including Statafords Van Lines and Pickfords Removals.(Stuttaford Van Lines)

Eleven furniture removal companies and the movers' association to which they belong face prosecution in the Competition Tribunal for price fixing involving the e-tolls levy they charge their customers.

The accused companies include Stuttaford Van Lines, Pickfords Removals and Crown Relocations.

The commission's investigation, launched in February has revealed collusion between the companies to add a levy of R350 to the amount they charge for the transporting of furniture on Gauteng e-tolls freeways.

The commission seeks an order that all the accused be held liable to pay an administrative penalty equivalent to 10% of their respective annual turnovers.
