Gauteng MEC for education, Panyaza Lesufi says that the country has failed Grade R pupils at AB Xuma Primary School in Orlando East, Soweto.

This comes after 83 pupils were sexually assaulted by a school patroller.

The alleged perpetrator is a 56-year-old man who was appointed on recommendation of the Greater Orlando Community Policing Forum.

The pupils who are aged between six and nine-years-old were subjected this gruesome crime in the hands of the person who was supposedly responsible for the school's security.

“We have to take responsibility as leaders. As a country we should be shocked, this is a national disaster. We have to protect these children and we have failed them, which is why we have to do everything in our power to give them the necessary support and care they need.”
