Former South African president Thabo Mbeki's dream to nurture young people in Africa will be realised today, when more than 150 graduates from different parts of the continent graduate at the Thabo Mbeki Africa Leadership Institute at the University of South Africa in Pretoria.
Since retirement, Mbeki has spent much time as a mediator in Sudan, but he has also found time to start the institute and the foundation named after him. Mbeki is expected to continue strengthening both the institute and foundation to ensure that more young people from Africa and the diaspora get mentoring in leadership.
Two months ago, Mbeki, turned 70, being the hard worker he is, he spent his special day in the line of duty. Those close to him said true to his culture of being a workaholic, for him the day was just like any other day. The birthday boy said there was still a lot of work to be done and he said he does not feel 70-years-old
