Madonsela says the final report into the probe will be made public in a couple of weeks time. (SABC)
Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says they are finalising the investigation into the procurement of a building for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
She was speaking to SABC News from Pietermaritzburg during her visit to KwaZulu-Natal. Last year, some who were unhappy with the progress of the probe, accused Madonsela of protecting her friend, Pansy Tlakula, the Chairperson of the IEC. This was denied by the Public Protector. Madonsela says the final report into the probe will be made public in a couple of weeks time.
She says they have release a provisional report, to which they received comments from the IEC and other affected parties. Madonsela says her office should be releasing the final report in the coming week or so. "I'm not in the position to say what has emerged. when we release the report, which is going to be either next week or the week after, you will get a sense of what our findings are."
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal is making strides to speedily finalise investigations into alleged malpractice involving Heads of Departments and Members of the Executive Council. That's according to Madonsela and KwaZulu-Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize. They have signed an agreement to expedite investigations in cases involving high-ranking officials. The agreement sets out clear procedures and timelines on how investigations will be handled. It aims to remove delays in the finalization of investigations.
