A Graskop chef, Nando Fraser, could be the new world record holder for grilling meat. He started his braai on Friday morning and ended just before 1' oclock this afternoon, putting the small tourist town of
Nando Fraser was counting the hours to his goal of braaiing for 72 hours non-stop, but even though he fell short and managed 71 hours 6 minutes and 17 seconds, it is still a new World Record.
“It is definitely harder than I thought it would be. I did not reach the time I had hoped I would, but I did well and broke the existing record, setting a new one,” says Fraser.
Fraser's doctor advised him to stop because of his high blood pressure. During his marathon grill, Fraser used about 220kg of meat and it was all for a worthy cause as over a thousand orphans will benefit from funds raised.
“The challenges we face at this home is food and clothing for the children as well as funds to pay the care-givers. We want to thank Nando for the project that he has initiated,” says Ken Scrimnger from Emmanuel’s Family Home.
Officials from the Guinness World Records are yet to assess Fraser's attempt.
The official record for the longest braai is 62 hours, 6 minutes and 16 seconds, a record set by another South African Gareth Daniell.
