Samuel Cele, 34, was expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court for a bail application.

His appearance comes a day after his co-accused Sifiso Khumalo, 31, was sentenced to 22 years for the murder of Dumisani Malunga in the Pietermaritzburg High Court yesterday. The two are charged with the murders of the ANC branch's secretary Bheki Chiliza and chairman Dumisani Malunga.

Malunga, 42, and Chiliza, 39, were shot dead while driving in the Oshabeni area at about 9.30pm last Sunday. Khumalo and Cele were arrested last Monday, barely a day after the fatal shooting of the two men.

Khumalo, who was the local branch chairman of the ANCYL in Port Shepstone pleaded guilty while Cele pleaded not guilty when the two appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court last Wednesday.

According to a statement by Khumalo for his guilty plea, he and Cele had arranged for a hit man to kill Malunga.

However, unknown to them, the hit man found Malunga and Chiliza together and decided to kill them both.

The assassin remains at large.
