The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it hopes to conclude coalition negotiations with several political parties in a number of hung municipalities by the end of the week.

This is where no party obtained an outright majority during last week's local government elections.

The most attention is focussed on the Gauteng metros of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni as well as Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be the kingmaker between the African National Congress (ANC) and the DA in Gauteng.

The DA's James Selfe has rejected reports that they have already struck coalition deals.

“None of these negotiations are in any way completed. They are indeed just at beginning stages of negotiations and we ought to be able to get a better picture of them by the end of the week. But in the meantime any suggestion that we have already concluded negotiations with any political party is completely false.”
