A fifth rhino has been killed and its horn taken at a Game Lodge near Walmansthal, north of Pretoria. According to the police, the incident happened on Friday and the matter was reported to the rangers by a visitor to the lodge.

Hawks spokesperson, Paul Ramaloko says, "There was no gun shot yesterday (Friday) when we got there, it appears as if the rhino was darted. The poachers this time used the most sophisticated mechanism to take the horn, because it appears as if it happened during the early hours of yesterday morning."

He adds, "No one has been arrested but we hope that we assembled a team of experienced detectives  that are working specifically on Rhino poaching and we hope that individuals will be brought to book not from a distance."

Since the beginning of the year 618 rhino have been poached, 381 of them in the Kruger National Park.
