ANC says the DA last said they welcomed the opportunity to go to court .(SABC)
The African National Congress (ANC) has accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) of peddling lies about President Jacob Zuma by distorting Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report.
The party has launched an urgent application in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg accusing the DA of violating the Electoral Act and Electoral Code of Conduct.
The ANC says the DA sent the public text messages saying the Nkandla report shows that Zuma stole public money to build his R 246 million home.
ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu has highlighted that the Public Protector found that Zuma had unduly benefitted from the multi-million rand upgrades when non-security features where built with taxpayer's money.
“She found that things like the swimming pool, chicken run and kraal where not part of upgrading his security. The DA last said they welcomed the opportunity to go to court," says Mthembu who added that DA maintained there was abuse of taxpayer's money.
