The remembrance prayer service for former President Nelson Mandela is underway at the Bryanston Methodist Church in Johannesburg.
President Jacob Zuma, Winnie Madikizela Mandela, Mandla Mandela and a large number of other family members, dignitaries and friends are attending.
In the Eastern Cape people have started arriving for a prayer service to be held at former president Nelson Mandela's birth place, Mvezo, some are wearing ANC t-shirts.
The wife of King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, Queen Noluntu, is among those who have arrived.
Mvezo is still coming to terms with the passing of the international icon. One of Madiba's great grandsons, Mayibuye Mandela, says even though the village is sad, they are grateful for the changes that Madiba's freedom has brought to them.
Meanwhile, a prayer service for Mandela is currently underway at St Pauls Anglican church in Galeshewe near Kimberley in the Northern Cape. The service is one of several other services in the province. Members of the congregation are praising Madiba for being a true leader.
Mandela passed away on Thursday evening at his Houghton home in Johannesburg after a long illness. He was 95. Madiba will be laid to rest next Sunday at his home village of Qunu in the Eastern Cape.
