ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe says Vavi should leave trade union politics.(SABC)
The African National Congress (ANC) urged suspended Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi to take up an ANC position in parliament.
ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said Vavi should leave trade union politics. Mantashe was speaking at the funeral service of trade unionist Crosby Moni at Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape.
Moni passed away a fortnight ago when he contracted malaria after a visit to Mozambique. Members of parliament, trade unionists and captains of industry paid tribute to Moni.
Mantashe said trade unionists were stuck within narrow ideologies. He said a parliamentary stint for Vavi would broaden his horizons. Mantashe says: “Since he is in trouble within Cosatu, he must go to parliament which is a bigger position and leave the narrow minded unionists.”
After a three hour service Moni was laid to rest in the family graveyard. He is survived by his wife and five children.
