Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba will lay criminal charges against those implicated in awarding ANC-connected, Vivian Reddy an irregular City Power contract.

It has emerged that City Power had paid Reddy's company a staggering R2.8 billion to install smart meters in the city of Joburg in 2012. A forensic probe has found that Reddy's contract was irregular. The report states that the contract did not comply with legislative and administrative regulations.

"The City has paid an astonishing estimated R2.8 billion rand to Vivian Reddy's company. It is essential we now get to the bottom of this matter. The Mayor has instructed Shadrack Sibiya who is heading the Forensic Investigation Unit to draft up a criminal affidavit where the mayor will be laying criminal charges. The deep rooted corruption that has been exposed at the City of Joburg is absolutely astonishing and it is essential that we stop this to ensure that every cent of the public money goes to our residents," says the City of Joburg Director of Communications, Tony Taverna Turisan.
