A statue of Nelson Mandela to be erected at the Union Buildings next month will be 3m taller than the one in Sandton-(SABC)
Government has vowed to honour former President Nelson Mandela and his generation of leaders for the contribution they made in the liberation of South Africa.
Speaking at the official opening of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Houghton, Johannesburg, Zuma says a statue of Mandela would be unveiled at the Union Buildings next month. The centre is housed at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg.
The event was attended by Madiba's wife Graca Machel, his grandson Chief Mandla Mandela, his lifelong friend Ahmed Kathrada and the US Ambassador to South Africa Patrick Gaspard among others.
Zuma says the statue will stand as a proud symbol of people united in diversity. He has also thanked the Centre for helping to preserve Mandela’s legacy for current and future generations.
