Mark Fish has provided an unrelenting overview of his long-standing friendship with the late Thomas Madigage, who passed away in a car accident last night after his car hit a donkey on the road between Burgersfort and Polokwane.

Mark relinquishes memories of their trip to Scotland not too long ago. "It's a sad way for him to go, just now as he stepped up to a higher profile job; being assistant manager to Bafana Bafana," says Fish.

The 41-year-old Madigage was appointed by Igesund in July this year to be his full-time assistant. Some were surprised at the appointment, but Igesund always said he was his first choice.

Madigage had served as assistant coach at SuperSport United since his retirement as a player in 2002.  He had played for Jomo Cosmos and SuperSport throughout his career, with a brief spell at FC Zurich in Switzerland.

Mark's sadness over the passing is apparent and it is without a doubt that his friend will be sorely missed. He further states that "Tommy" would have had a huge helping hand in future successes at Bafana Bafana.

"It's a sad way for him to go, just now as he stepped up to a higher profile job; being assistant manager to Bafana Bafana."

Meanwhile, earlier the South African Football Association says the passing of Bafana Bafana assistant coach Thomas Madigage has left a great void in the national team.

Safa president Kirsten Nematendani says head coach Gordon Igesund has suffered a major blow.

"It is with great regret and sorrow that we have to inform all South Africans on the passing of the national assistant coach of the senior team, Mr Thomas Madigage. On behalf of the Safa we would like to send our sympathy and condolences to the Madigage family," says Nematendani.

The Limpopo Provincial Government has expressed shock at the death of a renowned soccer icon, Thomas Madigage who died in a car accident yesterday on the road between Burgersfort and Polokwane.
