Tech giant company Apple launched its latest range of products on Tuesday, sparking social media reactions about the new features in their new range of products.

The iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and  Apple Watch 3 were unveiled on Tuesday.

Apple’s flagship smartphone, the iPhone X (pronounced iPhone “ten”)  leads the pack with an innovative all screen front.

“The device is the display,” says Apple about their iPhone X, which has a  5.8 Inch  Super retina display that covers the face of the phone. Apple says it has always aimed to create an iPhone that is “entirely screen”.

The iPhone X  has also lost the iconic home button, introducing a possible new trend in the future of smartphones.

While many expected more on latest technology, some experts say there were few innovative technology in Apple’s new products.

“We didn’t really see anything amazing and news. We saw a bunch of things with Apple catching up,” says Stuff magazine SA editor Craig Wilson in an interview with SABC’s Metro FM.

Wilson says new features like ‘wireless charging’ are features that  Apple’s rival Samsung has had for a few years already. “Wireless charging - Samsung has had that for literally years, I think three years, ” he notes.

He says other features that are already available in the market include ‘facial recognition’.

“The facial scanning that is already out there, although Apple is claiming that theirs is next level and does a lot more checks to make sure that your kids can’t get smart like point your phone at you while you are sleeping,” he says.

“The thing with phones is that progress is incremental, we don’t expect a revolution with every release.” Says Wilson.

Wilson says he wouldn’t be surprised to see the phone retailing for about R20 000 for the high end mode.

He says South Africans can expect to pay between R15 000 – R17 000 for the Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus once it is available in the country.
