Murdered Gauteng's top cop, Major-General Tirhani Maswanganyi, has been described as a no-nonsense police officer who was dedicated to the fight against crime.
Chairperson of Gauteng Community Police Board, Andy Mashaile, worked closely with Maswanganyi, particularly in the fight against piracy.
Mashaile says: "General Maswanganyi was a hands-on man on matters like your fake CD's. He would be directly (involved) in the arrests of those people who are committing crime."
Mashaile also described Maswanganyi as a "good leader" whose fight against crime reduced the cluster crime.
Maswayanganyi's body was found in a field near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria. A team of top detectives has been tasked to investigate the murder.
Gauteng police have offered a reward of R100 000 for information leading to the arrest of those who murdered Maswangwanyi.
