The questioning of Xolile Mngeni continues in court, today(SABC)

The man on trial for the murder of British tourist, Anni Dewani, is today expected to be back in the witness stand in the Western Cape High Court.

Proceedings adjourned early yesterday because Xolile Mngeni, 25, complained of being emotionally drained. He faced a gruelling cross-examination from the prosecution.

State prosecutor, Shareen Riley, says she still has a few questions that she would like to put to Mngeni.

Yesterday, Riley grilled him on a number of inconsistencies in his testimony and also highlighted a number of differences in his testimony, and what his lawyer had submitted in court.

Mngeni denies any part in Dewani's murder, claiming now, for the first time, that he has three possible alibi witnesses that could be called.

His testimony flies in the face of evidence presented by over 20 state witnesses, some of whom were friends and acquaintances of his.

Dewani and her husband, Shrien were hijacked while shuttle driver, Zola Tonga was ferrying them through Gugulethu in Western Cape on November 13, 2010.

Tonga and the couple were robbed of their possessions. Anni Dewani was shot dead on the back seat.

Mngeni admitted, this week, that he was given Tongo and Dewani's cell phones by Mziwamadoda Qwabe, who is serving 25 years in jail for his role in the murder.

A doctor is expected to present clinical notes on an injury Mngeni sustained to his left hand in 2009. His lawyer, Qalisile Dayimani has argued that without the full use of his hand, it would have been impossible for Mngeni to fire a gun.

Mngeni has pleaded not guilty to robbing, kidnapping and murdering Dewani. According to Qwabe, Mngeni pulled the trigger.
