Zuma cuts SADC trip short over Lonmin mine deaths

President Zuma arrived in Mozambique last night.(Ntebo Mokobo)

President Jacob Zuma has cut short his visit to Maputo, Mozambique were he was attending the SADC Summit, to attend to pressing domestic issues. This follows the death of 45 people at the Lonmin mine in Marikana near Rustenburg.

President Zuma has just asked his regional peers to excuse him from the meeting.

Zuma was expected to brief his regional peers on the progress made in the implementation of the Global Political Agreement in Zimbabwe following his visit to the neighbouring country on Wednesday.
 
Zuma arrived in the Mozambican capital, Maputo last night and was greeted by news of mine killings at the Lonmin Platinum mine in the North West. He expressed his shock and sadness at the loss of life and called on all parties involved to resolve their differences.
