The three children murdered at Mookgopong in Limpopo, last week, may not have attended school on the day they were reported missing.

It had earlier been suggested that the three may have disappeared during school hours. They were found gagged and bound. The young girl had been raped and then killed.

Today, a memorial service was held for them. The shock killing of the three school children has caused accusations and counter-accusations. The child care centre is adamant it took the children to school that fateful Wednesday.

Centre Manager, Anna Makoela, says the kids were taken to school as normal and the centre could not be expected to account for their whereabouts during school hours. However, school principal Klaas Mahlahlani, says the children never came to school on Wednesday.

Speakers at the memorial service spoke out against the violence in the country. Limpopo's Social Development MEC, Norman Mabasa, questioned whether the maximum punishment of a life sentence is a deterrent enough to perpetrators of violence. Others described the killing as a satanic act.

Police investigations are continuing. The children will be laid to rest this weekend.
