An 18-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly killing a Cape Town Metro police officer in Khayelitsha, on the Cape Flats.

Police say Senior Superintendent Mpumelelo Xakekile was issuing a fine to a taxi driver on Wednesday evening when two men randomly fired at him, killing him instantly.

The teenager will be charged with Xakekile's murder when he appears in Khayelitsha Magistrates Court today.

A R50 000 reward was issued last week for any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the search is still on for the killers of two police officers at the Imizamo Yethu Informal Settlement on the Cape Flats.

A 27-year-old Constable was shot in the head during a routine patrol on Friday evening. His family switched off his life support system yesterday after he was declared brain dead.

The policeman's colleague, a 26-year-old female Constable, also died in the shooting.
