The South African government says firm policies are in place to fight the scourge of rhino poaching.  The Conservation and Environmental Affairs Department says engagements are continuing with Asian countries to ensure agreements in wildlife crime prevention.

This comes as events take place to mark World Anti-Rhino Poaching Day.  The Department's spokesperson, Albie Modise, says: "This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is primarily aimed at ensuring that as we fight poaching in South Africa we work closely with this particular country."

Modise says that as government, they have realized the fact that poaching might be happening in South Africa, this particularly as horns find their way out of  South Africa into Asian markets.

Meanwhile, a group of film-makers has released a movie to highlight the plight of rhino in South Africa. Poaching has become endemic in South Africa, with 388 rhinos being killed in the country this year.
