Farmers are suffering loses as a result of drought. (SABC)
Agri SA has made an urgent call for drought assistance due to livestock fodder scarcity and rising lucerne prices.
The prices are exacerbating the crisis in drought-affected areas.
Agri SA has called on businesses, farmers and the public who are willing to contribute financially or donate fodder, maize stubble and other forms of feed to contact them.
The organisation's Christo van der Rheedo says their commercial and subsistence farmers have already lost thousands of livestock, as a result of the dire need for fodder.
This poses a serious threat to food prices and the country's food supply.
