Family wants quiet time for Pistorius

Saturday 23 February 2013 10:16

Family members of Oscar Pistorius say they want the athlete to have a quiet weekend.  Pistorius is today expected to make contact with the family of his late girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp a day after his release on bail pending a murder trial.

The Pretoria Magistrate's Court precinct is quiet after scores of media houses that had camped there during the Pistorius bail application hearing begin to pack their equipment.

Most of them had erected tents outside broadcast facilities on the pavements near the court building.

Pistorius has been released on R 1 million bail with the trial commencing on the fourth of June. Pistorius is in Waterkloof at his uncle Arnold Pistorius's place.

He has been charged with murder of Steenkamp who was shot and killed at his Pretoria east home on Valentine's Day.

A reporter from a London-based television station says everyone just turned interested in the Oscar Pistorious story.

“He's a well-known figure, he's an icon everyone knows who he is, and it's a fascinating and shocking story,” said the reporter.
