The United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP 21) due to be held in France in December has featured prominently at an international transport summit underway in Germany.

International transport ministers gathered in the city of Leipzig, calling on governments to pursue low carbon transport systems.

As the number of vehicles on the road, planes in the skies and trains on our railway lines increase, so do the carbon emissions.

Scientists say such pollution is responsible for global warming and climate change.

It is for this reason that policy makers continue to debate the issues.  The UN is urging all countries, including the worst polluters, to find green solutions.

"In December, government will meet in Paris to agree on meaningful and collective action on climate change. Sustainable transport is a common thread. It is time to reshape the world's transport system for a safer, cleaner transport system," says Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
