To highlight and promote the South African Air Force, who are hosting an air show at the Zwartkops Air force Base on Saturday, May 9, a race between the Gautrain and the Aloette II was staged.

South Africa’s Air Force is the second oldest air force in the Commonwealth.

The race began at the Gautrain’s  Midrand station and ended in Centurion with the Alouette II racing to claim victory over the Gautrain.

Colonel Piet Wellman, who was responsible for flying the helicopter which brought about live footage, says that the air show is aimed at exposing the air force to children and that aviation offers a host of career opportunities.
