Democratic Alliance (DA) leader in the Eastern Cape, Athol Trollip has vowed to work hard to increase the membership of the party in the province.
He was sworn in as a member of the Bhisho Legislature by the Speaker, Fikile Xasa on Wednesday. This after a vacancy arose in the legislature following the death of Pine Pienaar early this year. Trollip elected to return to the province from the national Parliament, where he served as a DA-MP.
He says he is going to be a thorn in the flesh of the ANC -led government to ensure that it's delivering quality service to the people. Trollip questioned why the ANC is not doing anything to change around the situation in rural areas like the Ciskei and the former Transkei and that would be one of his main areas.
Meanwhile, the Umkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) in the Eastern Cape has come out in support of the current ANC leadership. This as the province officially opened the process of lobbying for positions and nomination of leaders for the upcoming ANC provincial elective congress to be held in Port Elizabeth later this month.
MKMVA provincial secretary, Mlungisi Ndamase says they want the current leadership to be given a second term in office. Ndamase says the current leadership is experienced, the current leadership has got the capacity to lead towards victorious elections the current leadership has done everything possible to make MKMVA visible and strong and also has taken MKMVA not just members of MKMVA but also as part of the ANC structures.
