Samancor Chrome mineworkers are expected to report for duty at their Mooinooi operations outside Rustenburg, in the North West, this morning.
The workers were given special leave from the 3rd to the 15th of this month. They have been on an unprotected strike, since the beginning of the month.
Over 400 striking Samancor Chrome miners, at Mooinooi, staged an underground sit-in, early this month, demanding better wages. They also said a refusal by management to grant them a permit to hold a meeting has forced them to stage a sit-in.
After negotiations with the police and management, they agreed to come to the surface. The mine management gave them special leave. They are demanding a basic monthly salary of R12500. Miners remain adamant that they do not want union representation and will not return to work until their demands are met.
But management has so far refused to budge.
