Ten people have died in an accident involving three vehicles on the N6 road between East London and Sutterheim. Eastern Cape Arrive Alive spokesperson Tshepo Machaea says a number of passengers have also been injured and rushed to hospitals in East London and Bhisho. Eyewitnesses say one of the vehicle lost control, crashed into an oncoming vehicle, which then crashed into another vehicle. One of the vehicles was apparently transporting children from a sporting event.

In KwaZulu-Natal, one man was killed and another injured when their bakkie collided with a parked trucked on the N2 north in Amanzimtoti this morning. "Reports from the scene indicate that three people in a bakkie were travelling towards Athlone Park when they collided into the back of a stationary truck near the Oppenheimer road bridge," said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.

One of the passengers was found dead when paramedics arrived on the scene. Another passenger suffered serious injuries and was in a critical condition. The third occupant of the bakkie, the driver, escaped the accident unharmed. The injured man was taken to a local hospital while the driver is being questioned by police.
