The State says its ready to proceed with the trial against renowned Hip Hop artist American rapper and actor Yasiin Bey, commonly known as Mos Def.

The 42-year-old artist briefly appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's court on charges of contravening the immigration Act.

He was arrested at the airport in January this year for trying to leave the country on an unrecognisable. world passport.

His family has been granted an interim order allowing them to remain in the country.
