The Eastern Cape education department has commended Collegiate Girls High School in Port Elizabeth for suspending a teacher who allegedly offered drugs to students.

The Visual Arts teacher allegedly took drugs in front of learners and offered them drugs. He was reported two months ago by the learners and an internal investigation was conducted by the school, which led to his suspension.

Department spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima elaborates, “We commend the swift action of the SGB and the school management team upon learning about this matter. Remember, while we are educating our learners on the curriculum. We are also developing humans who will be future leaders, and we cannot develop these with drugs at play. We are happy about their actions because at the end of the day they dealt with the matter quickly to ensure that our learners are saved.”
