Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe will face a judicial tribunal to hear complaints of gross misconduct levelled against him.

Hlophe's legal team has confirmed receiving notification informing them about the establishment of a tribunal.

In 2008, justices of the Constitutional Court complained to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) that Judge Hlophe had tried to influence the outcome of a judgement before the court concerning corruption charges which were levelled against President Jacob Zuma.

Hlophe's attorney Barnabas Xulu says they welcome the tribunal, as it will clear the name of their client.

It will exonerate our client and we hope that it will also pave the way for him to carry on flourishing in his career. He is one of the best legal minds in this country." says Xulu.

"We have no doubt that he will be successful," added Xulu.
